We are pleased to announce the upcoming Seminar on Utilizing Big Data and the Social and Policy Sciences in Split, Croatia! Faculty from Mississippi State University, George Mason University, the University of Zagreb, the University of Split, and the University of Applied Sciences VERN’ at Zagreb will lead the 5-day seminar. Participants will be provided a chance to engage with lecturers to learn and discuss research on big data in social and policy sciences. Drs. Kathleen Ragsdale and Mary Read-Wahidi traveled to the Mississippi Delta on February 28-March 1 to:
conduct in-depth interviews with key administrative partners affiliated with the CDC-funded Focus4Teens Initiative and
participate in the CDC-site visit for Focus4Teens.
Laura Herring (right) has joined the SSRC as an Intern with Drs. Kathleen Ragsdale and Mary Read-Wahidi. Herring is Herring is currently a 4th Year Senior and will be a ‘Super Senior’ at Mississippi State University in Fall 2018. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management with a concentration in International Business and a B.A. in Foreign Languages with a concentration in Spanish. Herring is a Virtual Student Foreign Service Intern at the U.S. Department of State (2016-present), and student worker at the Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center (2017-present). Herring is a recipient of the Presidential Endowed Scholarship (2014-present), a President’s List Academic Scholar (2014-present), a recipient of the Shackouls Honors College Junior of the Year Award (2017), Executive Director and Founder of No Lost Generation at MSU (2016-present), and founding member/student advocate of Diversity Alliance Response Team (DART) (2017-present). Herring served as a Foreign Service Intern at the U.S. Department of State, Consulate General in Italy in 2016 and as an English as a Second Language Teacher at the Center of Participation and Integration of Immigrants in Spain in 2017. Herring will be assisting on the CDC-funded Focus4Teens Evaluation project and the USAID-funded Feed the Future Soybean Innovation Lab Project.

Kelly Lower – SSRC GRA to Drs. Kathleen Ragsdale and Mary Read-Wahidi and Masters candidate in Applied Anthropology in the MSU Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures – gave an oral presentation at the 2018 MSU Graduate Research Symposium. Lower placed 2nd in the Masters section for Social and Behavioral Sciences (photo right).
