New Projects

Dr. Robert McMillen will serve as Principal Investigator of the “ABC to Quit Year 2” project. This work will focus on building from previous work of providing tobacco control assistance to parents in pediatric settings since parents who smoke often visit their child’s doctor more than their own. Massachusetts General Hospital is sponsoring this project through the National Institutes of Health.

Awards & Recognitions

Sarah Dulaney was awarded first place in the Social Sciences Division of the MSU Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium. Sarah is a research assistant in the Message Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Holli Seitz.

Dr. Stacy Haynes, a research fellow, was promoted to professor in the MSU Department of Sociology.

Dr. Kathleen Ragsdale and Dr. Mary Read-Wahidi have been nominated to receive the 2021 BIFAD Senior Research Team Award for Scientific Excellence in a Feed the Future Innovation Lab. The Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) is a premier organization that serves as an advisory body to USAID. The Feed the Future Innovation Labs draw on the expertise of top U.S. universities and developing country research institutions to tackle some of the world’s greatest challenges to strengthen the resiliency of food and agricultural systems and reduce poverty and undernutrition. The BIFAD Senior Research Team Award for Scientific Excellence is one way in which BIFAD recognizes the trailblazing work of dedicated Innovation Lab researchers. Ragsdale and Read-Wahidi were jointly nominated by the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish and the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research.

Dr. Mary Read-Wahidi and Dr. Kathleen Ragsdale were highlighted on the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish website. A new brief highlights subawardees’ responses and serves as a first step to increasing gender awareness by introducing Fish Innovation Lab teams to common gender barriers that may present challenges to producing the most impactful results to benefit both men and women aquaculture and fisheries value-chain actors. On the Horizon

Dr. Kathleen Ragsdale and Dr. Mary Read-Wahidi are co-organizers and presenters on a panel session that has been accepted for presentation at the Cultivating Equality Conference 2021: Advancing Gender Research in Agriculture and Food Systems. This conference is jointed organized by the CGIAR Gender Platform and Wageningen University and Research. The panel session includes lead scientists from across more than five USAID Feed the Future (FtF) Innovation Labs, who include faculty and extensionists at U.S. universities who partner with in-country researchers to find solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues related to agriculture and food security. The conference registration is free-of-charge and you can learn more about the conference and access the registration link here: https://event.wur.nl/cultivating-equality2021.
