New Members Named to MASEP Advisory Council

STARKVILLE, Miss.—The Mississippi Alcohol Safety and Education Program (MASEP) added five new members to its advisory council this fall.
The council is composed of 15 facilitators, or program instructors, with five members rotating off every three years. The five new advisory members bring decades of experience to the board since they have each served with MASEP or in related fields for several years.
The advisory board meets once a year in a central location to discuss the program curriculum, classroom instruction, and administration of the program.
“The Advisory Council is a vital part of the MASEP program. The members supply firsthand input as to the issues that occur in the MASEP classroom. We take their input and adapt our curriculum in a manner that allows for more effective implementation. There is no doubt that as a result of their work MASEP is able to change the lives of our participants and contribute to the overall safety of the citizens of the state of Mississippi,” said Billy Brister, MASEP director of operations.
The MASEP class is a statutorily required program for anyone convicted or undergoing the non-adjudication process for 1st offense DUI of alcohol or drugs. For more information, visit www.masep.org.
The new members include:
- Dr. Melnee Berry—psychology/sociology instructor, Copiah Lincoln Community College; Wesson facilitator; teaching MASEP 3 years
- Steve Bramlett—retired Chief of Police, City of Oxford; Oxford facilitator; teaching 41 years
- Monica Cummings—school counselor, Jefferson County, AL schools; Columbus and on-line instructor; teaching MASEP 15 years
- Don Hammons—retired Memphis Police Officer; Southaven facilitator; teaching MASEP 15 years
- Dewey Wells—retired Police Officer for City of Oxford; Oxford facilitator; teaching MASEP 47 years
