Faculty from the University of Zagreb (Zagreb, Croatia) and Mississippi State University will jointly lead a week-long seminar at the Centre for Advanced Academic Studies (Dubrovnik, Croatia) that explores the use of emerging big data sources in social and policy sciences. The seminar will introduce participants to methods for analyzing social media data (i.e., Twitter), and Google Ngram Data (i.e., data points from millions of digitized books). Methodological and theoretical perspectives from the social and political sciences will be applied to the presentation of individual, innovative research projects, such as, but not limited to: policy theories, disaster management, the polarization of politics, and socio-historical transformations in culture over time.
